Get In The Game
We spend a lot of time here at Praxis and at Brooke Stone Lifestyle Management encouraging you to take a minute for yourself, to applaud your own efforts, to reward yourself for a job well done and to generally appreciate yourself. This is all 100% necessary and sound, valuable advice someone had to give you, but today I’m doling out some advice that must be paired in equal part.
Try harder. Be better. Do more. Grow. Learn and strive for excellence. Model these qualities and never stop pushing. Want it more. Get it faster. Love it more deeply and never, ever let it go. Light a fire and let it burn.
As you toss back your hotdog today, spend just one moment and think about the greater significance of the day. Think of the men and women who have given their lives for this country, and of their families. They pushed. Open up the scope, think of anyone you know who has sacrificed for what they want. Sacrificed free time, financial security, emotional security, to keep pushing. Salute them.
Now take a good, hard look at your mustard stained face and ask yourself if you are really in it to win it. Are you comfortable at work, maintaining a nice hum of activity in your life, relaxed into your relationship? It’s not enough. I promise you, it’s not enough for you or the people around you. Push harder. Get better. Be better. Don’t stop.
It’s time to get it the game. Take the time to tell yourself you are doing a good job, but only if you really are. And if you are coasting and comfortable, you could be doing better. How do I know this for sure? Because there are people around you who strive to get better every day, and if you don’t play on their level you will be staring at their backs from your comfortable chair noticing all the lumps in the upholstery. It’s your choice.
